Default fret ends sticking out

The first and second frets on my pacer are sticking
out on the treble side, enough so that the string catches
under the fret sometimes when I'm doing open string
pull off licks (like the spirit of radio intro, which we cover, so it
is fucking up practices)
I hadn't noticed it before, is it something I could
cure with a humidifier, like if it's the wood shrinking
from the crazy dry air we have right now,
or should i just file the fret ends down?

Anywho, what kind of file is good to use for this sort of thing?

Jump in yer taxi and bring it over, I'll dress the ends, level and polish the frets while we have a couple cold ones and a nice visit.

Otherwise you can just file the ends yourself, I like to use my diamond sharping block I picked up at harborfreight. You can use any fine small file - just be careful of the fingerboard edges. Now is a good time while the wood has shrunk then when it swells again if it does you will have a real nice edge.

Thanks for that info guys- one of my Focii has the same issue. Oddly enough... on the treble side only as well, but this one is running almost all the way down the board and it never did this before. Strange.

The necks will shrink a little with the dry air and expose the fret ends, places like stumac sell a special file with a safe edge just for dressing the ends. It works real nice to knock those sharp corners off after you file them down flush.

Well, the hard part there would be getting me to leave!
A bunch of cool amps and a stack of kramers a mile high?
I'd camp out on yer lawn!

As it stands, i got a tapered file and some masking tape, I'm
going in.

Jon
I concur with that assessment, doctor!

Well, problem solved.
I'm not gonna bother with the rest of the frets,
they could probably use a good, high quality
(someone other than me) dress and polish,
but I'm too scared of filing off big chunks of
wood. There was a little rosewood dust on the
masking tape when I pulled it off as it is.
