Default 80's ESP Maverck with Holographic Paint Job

Hi, I'm new here, I found this old ESP. I'm guessing it's a 88 or 89 Maverick based on the fact it has only one volume and one tone. I do not know if ESP did this custom paint job or someone did after the fact but it's a real pro holographic paint job. Reflects different colors when the light hits it.

Welcome to Shred, toneman.

Probably a refin, because I don't remember any ESPs with a holo finish, but anything is possible. Some of the other guys will have more info than I will.
IMO, it doesn't really matter. If it's a good guitar, PLAY IT!
Doing stupid stuff always beats not doing smart stuff.

My Mood:

That's definitely a refinish. The only thing I could think of would be if it were a 48th street custom shop from NY but then it'd have some markings in the neck pocket or on the neck plate to denote that. It'd also probably have some other stuff on it differentiating it from the production model... yours is bone stock other than the paint job. Still, that's super cool looking and as long as it's a pro job and sealed in, it probably adds something to the value of that guitar really.

Also, that's probably an early 1990's model, as the '88 Mavericks had larger Kramer Nightswan shaped bodies (which were kinda weird looking in my opinion, but some people loved it) and weren't production models yet. I have an old ESP catalog around somewhere but you can find them online, give it a search on google for one around '93 (which will have the specs of it). I have a "deluxe" model Maverick with the non-pointy strat type headstock and H/S/S config, and yours and mine both have the same ESP branded rails pickups at the neck and what is supposedly a Duncan "JB" at the bridge. Mine's humbucker sounded strangely bright to me but then again I'm not used to a JB in a guitar with a maple top. I took it out and am going to put something else in there probably.

Enjoy the guitar man, I NEVER see Mavericks for sale and I look for them all the time.
