If we're talking about eighties type players, it would have to be Nuno.
If we're talking classic rock, it would be Paul Kossoff.
If it's rockabilly/swing, there's only one: Brian Setzer!

For "band" musicians, it's a tossup between Mick Mars and Dave Mustaine. I caught Crue on the COS tour last year and I saw Mick onstage playing guitar and I thought he was the coolest guy on the planet. I learned almost every Crue song between then and now.

Mustaine is just a kickass guitarist and is the best frontman you could get because he doesn't take shit. They constantly up the ante from the early days, so material becomes more of a challenge from album to album and keeps them interesting.

As for solo artists, hands down Satch. Yngwie's a close second.

Top 10 favorite guitarist list would be easier to name. Right now I'd have to go with someone not too many people would mention. Bill Leverty from Firehouse I've seen him play live several times and hung out with him in person. He is a very underrated guitar player and nice guy all around. Its just too bad he plays Yamaha Pacificas exclusively instead of the real rock guitars - Kramer, Jackson, etc...

He's still playing Pacificas? Yeah, Bill played some great stuff. I've only heard the first Firehouse tape, though.

Another underrated guitarist from that era is Tim Kelly of Slaughter.
Great sound, great player. Not real "shreddy", but always had great licks.

Yes, Tim Kelly was another great overlooked guitarist. And yep, Bill Leverty is still playing Yamaha Pacificas after 16 yrs touring. I just saw him and the band play at a small club here in Illinois back in March. He was playing a custom shop Yamaha Pacifica flame top purple with rosewood fretboard and pearl zig zag inlays on the neck. He usually plays that flame top amber one for the last decade but its the first time I've seen him play a purple Pacifica. I use to own a chrome red with black pickguard Pacifica 1221M with maple fretboard (of course ) and black zig zag inlays. Its the closest I've ever had to one of his guitars.

Default Mars!!!!

Mick Mars. Without a doubt, the most unrated guitarist of all time.
