Default Alternate Tunings in Detail

"New tunings inspire new musical thoughts. Alternate tunings let you play voicings and slide between chord forms that would normally be impossible. They give access to nonstandard open strings. Playing familiar fingerings on an unfamiliar fretboard is exciting - you never know exactly what to expect. And working out familiar riffs on an unfamiliar fretboard often suggests new sound patterns and variations. This book helps you explore alternative ways of making music..."

I play in drop tunings a lot. Drop D usually, but sometimes Drop C and Drop B.

About 3 or 4 months ago I decided on a whim to detune my low E down to A......keeping the rest of the guitar in standard tuning. I gotta say I really love it.....especially the octave A strings side by side. Before that I'd been playing in drop D for 10 years or so.

I've been way into Devin Townsend lately, and seeing some stuff with him, I'm real interested in trying open A or B.
