Default Charvel Model 4 & 6 Question

Hello all,

Ill get right to my question and post else where a little about me but i am an avid Charvel / Jackson fan..

I have my eye on a Japan model 4 & model 6. I noticed some have the sharkfin inlay and some have dots.. Is there any differences.. I feel like i am missing a keen piece of knowledge.. and need to be schooled :-)

Thanks
Dave

I'll try to help

The Model 4 has a basswood body & bolt-on neck with dots for the '86 year and usually fitted with a Kahler trem; the '87-89 had sharkies and used the Jackson JT-6 trem. Although I have seen both dots with a JT-6 and sharkies with a Kahler. I would imaginge those were transition models from one year to the next.

The Model 6 has a poplar body & is a neck thru (basically Charvel's version of a Jackson Soloist) As far as I know Model 6's always had sharkies.

Both models have very similar pickups so the choice really comes down to bolt-on vs. neck thru, tremolo, and body wood.

BTW...WELCOME to Shred Guitar!

Thanks Q-Ball,

I am actually hoping to own both :-)

I used to play a usa charvel in the 80's (red), and than stopped playing for awhille, had a SL1 (purple - was told it was paul gilbert or jason beckers when i bought it used in the mid 90's) that was stolen in 2000 since than been floating between my SG / Jackson Dinky & Epi LP Custom but none of em do it for me like the old charvels or jackson SL1. This months guitar world has a great article on Charvel and it got my fires stoked... I was planning on picking up another SL1 when the tax man pays me back.. but in the mean time thought i would hunt down some charvels..and try to get back in to collecting.. Is there anyway to tell anything from the serial #'s?
