After several years of searching for "The Ultimate Superstrat" I finally got a USA Jackson Soloist. On an impulse buy nonetheless!

Anyway I've loved the black Soloist since about 1985 when I saw Jeff Hanneman with one. So I saw a "good deal" on eBay on a pre-Fender USA SL1 and pulled the trigger.

I've had her a couple of weeks now and have fallen in love. However, the guitar does have a few flaws that I didn't expect on a guitar with such a stellar reputation. Stiff competition between my ESPs and the Jackson, I'm still not sure which one I'd choose if I had to save only one from a burning building.

So, what are the flaws?

1. There's a little smidgen of either excess glue or mother of pearl at the tip of the 7th fret inlay fin

2. There's a hairline crack in the binding on the low E side near the locking nut

3. the high E treble side Floyd bridge post is slightly bent

None of these are noticable when playing.

Numbers 2 & 3 could have happened at any time.
It is a used guitar.

But, I understand what you're saying,
when you lay down that kind of cash,
you want the guitar to be right.

This is true, I bought her used. And considering the price I think it was still an excellent purchase! :icon_bigg

I am.

I've had it for a few weeks now, and it's my main #1.

Although my ESP MII is RIGHT there also.

The SL1 just plays SO nice. I LOVE it.

I was hunting around for a Soloist...
and bought a DKMGT (Hardtail, string through, archtop, and BLACK)
for something in the meantime.

Even the DK is sweet. It hasn't only become the number one, it has inspired me to relearn everything.

Great Find, Doctor!

Sweet axe Doc! I love Jacksons and the way they feel/sound. Nothing compares to them, except mid-late 80's Kramer guitars IMO. Soloists are the superstrat all others are judged by in my humble opinion.

By the way, I love your sig bro. It's so fucking true, but nobody seems to live up to that anymore. Rock and roll is so formula these days. Fucking radio....

I used to be a huge Kramer guy. I had like a dozen of them at the peak of my Kramerkraziness. Pacer Specials, Pacer Deluxes, Stagemaster, Condor, Vanguards...

The USA Jackson puts them to shame in my opinion. :guitarplay:

I always wanted one because I thought they were "the ultimate superstrats" (although my Hamer USA Chaparral Elite Sustainiac is RIGHT there in that department also).

I had an RR before but got tired of the shape.

My sig comes from the movie "Wild Zero" featuring Guitar Wolf. Great flick. :eusa_clap

I loved the Baretta, back in the day.
Until I came across the Charvel Model 88. Heavy, but nothing compared.
This DK will hold for now, but I see a soloist in my future.
