Anyone seen these (http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=0&TempID=1&STRID=23026&Method=2&CategoryID=0&BrandID=0&PriceRangeID=0&PageNum=0&DepartmentID=0&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&SearchPhrase=rg350mdx&Contains=%2Arg350mdx%2A&Search_Type=SEARCH&GroupCode=) yet? We've got a Sam Ash here in Las Vegas so I'm gonna go pop in there and see what these are all about. $400 and a sick looking axe. Anyone have any input on them?

Looks like they're trying to cash in on the Jackson Snow White DKMG's popularity.

I've got a suggestion for them.......instead of trying to clone Jackson's mid level stuff,
why not reissue their own classic stuff from their heyday? I was on their site earlier
and there was a thread about the new 24 fret Sabers they're gonna introduce at the
winter NAMM show.............not impressed. Myself I love Ibbys, but the guitars from
back in the day.

This one DOES look nice, but I just know it's got the crappy trem, and stock pups that
are begging to be replaced. And then there's the whole made in Korea/Indonesia thing.
IMHO I'd be more comfortable taking my chances with the Jackson.

Rant over......lol!!!

I had one with rosewood fingerboard and white pups.
Frets are terrible .
You'll need new pups, new trem and fret job.
Better buy a prestige !

yup.. a prestige.. a jackson would be nice, but i hear they're riddled with problems too.. i guess no matter what you buy nowadays, you gotta look extra-really good..

Wow! Thanks for all your honesty and insight guys! I'm not very knowledgeable on the Ibanez stuff, but have seen a few that have caught my eye. I am a big Jackson guy so I know where you're coming from on that side of things. I have recently played one of the Ibanez RGT42DX neckthru models and absolutely loved it (albeit a bit on the heavy side... must be the mahogany). I also confess to playing and digging their new Vs (the ones with the D-Activator pups in them... I forget what model that guitar was). I might actually end up snagging one of those to be honest. It felt good in my hands AND was a string-thru. I've got a few Floyded guitars so string thru is in my sights.

Again, thanks for the opinions guys! Keep them coming!

The Jackson with a OFR is as good a player as you can ask for. If the wood is decent, I'd say the same outcome is possible with the Ibo. The so-called mid-level guitars today are making a mockery of the high-dollar axes. We used to call Focci "Fuckus", and now they are sought after. Shit, why pay 3k for an ESP when you can dish 800 bones for a high-end LTD that is the same guitar? Graphics are nice, but it's hard to justify the cash for today's top shelf stuff. Not when you can have cousin vinnie flash a guitar and have something very few people have as opposed to the same old blood splatters and skull heaps.

well.. for one, i like ibanez's higher end stuff.. and if anyone ever played an "s" series from back in the day (mid 80's-mid late 90's), you'll understand why us ibby guys are getting excited.. it's the original specs on the wizard1 neck, but with the titanium rod thru it (which i have my doubts about the tonal quality of), a zr trem, and most of all, it's made in japan.. Finally!!.. but.. it's 24 fretts (which means somethings gotta shift somewhere), it's a tad thicker, and it has H-S-H pup configuration.. which is alright, but i already have one of those and i only need one..

I know a guy who has a custom shop Nuclear yellow Sabre, Fan-fuckin-tastic, the only problem I had with it was the neck, it is a little strange to get used to

I had a JEM from back in the day. I understand they are much better now. It was just too extreme; how thin is too thin for a neck? The difference between it and my Vandy was the Vandy didn't fall apart. Ibanez makes good guitars, but some of the ones from "back in the day" weren't it.

Wow, hey capt, remember the thread you locked around this time last year that had me and Davey's argument over Ibanez? It was about this guitar! LOL!!!

I have the EX version of that axe and it plays pretty good! Pickups suck, but I love my Ibanez. Not as good as my OFR'd Jackson, but still a good player and with the DiMarzio I put in, it sounds great, too.

Do what you want, but it IS a mid-level priced guitar, so take that into consideration before you buy one.

Good luck, mon capiton!

Adam, you remember the story I told you about this guitar a year ago. I was trying to get this guitar at GC. They only carried it in black but I wanted it in white. Sales guy promised me they could get it in white. So they ordered it and sure enough, they screwed up and sent me the black RG350MDX instead. I took it back to the store furious and complained. With further research on their part they realized that you can only get the white RG350MDX from Sam Ash exclusively. Needless to say they royal screwed up and offered me the Jackson DK2M in white at no additional charge. That was an awesome deal a year ago because the RG350MDX is $399 and the DK2M retail at that time was $599. A few months later after that mishap the sales clerk quit (or got fired) probably because the store was not making any money. But that is another story altogether. :icon_lol: Anyway...I played the RG350MDX and those Ibanez guitars are made in Indonesia. They are O.K. guitars but they are not the best by any means. The older Japanese models are way better IMO. And you can never go wrong with a USA model.

like i said.. their higher end (prestige, j-customs, etc..) guitars are the only thing they do right.. their lower-mid, i wouldn't buy.. and also, there's only a few higher end ibanez's that i would buy.. but this "s" commin' up.. i'm buyin.. :eusa_danc

I guess the whole thing for me is,for $400 I'd rather grab something off the Bay used
and get a higher quality instrument. Now when your talking about dropping $1,000+
on a new Prestige or something,I'd rather take that money and get 2 or 3 guitars and
maybe....God forbid, have a little cash left over to pay some bills....lol!!

The 350 isnt what it used to be. I went looking for 1 a year ago as an "everyday" axe and wasnt happy with the 3 I played that day. Ruined that idea for me.
The quality just isnt there IMO. Im an old Ibby lover and these just didnt feel right.
I ended up spending the same $ on a near mint RG470XL from a pawn shop. SOOOO happy I did.

i have that exact same guitar...it actually is a really great guitar...i cant stand rosewood fret boards.

but i just changed the pick ups, and this thing hasnt given me any problems for 2 years....

oh and its not copying the jackson one...the jackson one felt a lot cheaper than mine did...

im still working on getting a new trem for it, and a new paint job...but other than that..i couldnt be happier.

will an OFR retrofit on there? as long as its made in atleast China or Korea it could be damn good

i think i just got lucky...because a lot of people complain about quality..i guess i just got the good end of the bunch..i dont think its too big for an ofr if im not mistaken...i know an ibanez with a lo pro or trs should fit an ofr
